Playback quality challenge - VL vs MPC
Recently, users of my system, which uses VideoLab for playback of MTS HD files recorded on Sony camcorders, noted that the playback quality is not nearly as good as that provided by, for example, Media Player Classic.
Played side-by-side, the MPC playback looks like it's 60 Hz, while the VideoLab playback looks like 30. Nobody complains that the VideoLab playback quality is poor. By itself, it looks "good". But not nearly as pristine as MPC's. The video is 1080i, metadata indicating 30fps. My theory is that the difference lies in the decoder used -- specifically, that MPC is using something proprietary that enables it to display 60 fields per second, as opposed to de-interlaced video at 30fps. I would like to know whether it's possible to get VideoLab to play back a video like this the same way. Fingers crossed, ted |
